THE 16 DAYS OF ACTIVIST AGAINST GENDER-BASED-VIOLENCE
Gender-based violence (GBV) is still a widespread problem in Rwanda, with women and young girls remaining Gender-based violence (GBV) is still a widespread problem in Rwanda, with women and young girls remaining the primary people affected. However, the country is known to be a pace setter in the fight against this epidemic. Innovative national strategies and policies have been initiated by the government to eliminate GBV and promote gender equality at all levels.
Even before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, 243 million women and girls globally were abused by their intimate partners in the past year. Since the pandemic, with lockdowns measures, countries around the world have seen an alarming rise in reporting on violence against women, especially domestic violence.
Through its different programmes that addresses issues affecting young girls and women in the Rwandan community, Association des Guides du Rwanda join the world in a campaign of the 16 Days of activism against Gender-Based-Violence to speak out and advocate for Gender-Based-Violence survivors. So, we can’t sit back and keep quit, we fight for a future of safe spaces and zero violence!
