Scaling SDG 5 _ Making Gender Equality a Reality

Scaling SDG 5 _ Making Gender Equality a Reality

Association des Guides du Rwanda (AGR) and Pfadfinderinnenwerk St. Georg (PSG), the guiding organisations in Rwanda and Germany take a strong lead when it comes to girl’s and women’s rights but we see that girls and women are not equal in all aspects of life. Physical and mental violence is a threat for the development and the success in both the personal and professional life of girls and women in both countries.

Under the grant of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development through Engagement Global, this two year exchange programme aims at exploring the common problems in gender equality both in Rwanda and Germany, learn better practices and networks to fight against different forms of violence and oppression which harm girls and prevent them. Specifically at the end of the project cycle the participants will have understood for problems and successes shared, for differences and similarities between the countries and their people. Participants will be trained on Gender Equality, and will be able to act as mentors and champions for SDG 5, as well as ambassadors for intercultural understanding and international exchanges. Participants will have worked out the most important aspects of SDG 5 for their own organisation in order to implement them further.

AGR and PSG hope to reach more girls with their message against gender-based violence. They will create safe spaces for girls to share, to learn about and be trained on methods how to prevent and be vocal about physical and mental violence against girls.

Both project partners have a deeper understanding on the topics and problems touching SDG 5 in each national society and also the problems and topics which affect the individual lives of the participants/ young women. Both partners will build upon each partner organisation’s best practices in Gender Equality and expand their networks with other organisation working on Gender Equality and against gender-related violence.

Scaling SDG5 is part of the Global Campaign “Stop the Violence” by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
